Hundreds gather for a statewide people’s assembly to strengthen a growing network of community organizers, build collective power, and advance a shared vision of an ICE-free New Jersey
Calls for action and accountability filled the Escondido City Council Chambers after, once again, Mayor Dane White and Councilmembers Joe Garcia and Judy Fitzgerald refused to second a motion by Councilmember Consuelo Martinez to put the ICE/HSI Firing Range Contract itself on the agenda for a vote.
On Thursday morning, a broad-based coalition of neighborhood, labor, and civil rights groups rallied at City Hall, calling for an end to the city’s contract with ICE, and sharing new information obtained about the controversial firing range agreement with ICE. Residents invited the public to demand answers and accountability at the next City Council meeting on Wed, September 30th.
City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez joined dozens of Los Angeles immigrant community leaders to rally this morning in support of AB 1537, the “No Side Jobs for ICE Act.”
On Thursday, September 24, plaintiffs in Vasquez Perdomo v. Mullin — a case challenging the Trump administration’s immigration raids in Southern California — will host a rally and press conference before a federal court hears arguments on plaintiffs’ request to block racial profiling and suspicionless stops by federal immigration agents.
