KEEP HOPE – AND IMMIGRANT BUSINESSES – ALIVE

LOS ANGELES, June 13 – The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) is calling on everyone throughout the Los Angeles metro area to bring their support to  immigrant-run businesses in Downtown L.A.

The following is a statement from Pablo Alvarado, Co-Executive Director of NDLON:

“ICE raids are not just attacking and devastating families. They are also attacking the immigrant economy.

“The Fashion District and other parts of downtown Los Angeles are deserted. The streets are emptier now than in the worst days of the pandemic. MAGA aggression has brought a plague of fear and silence into the streets of the city we love.

“We need to keep immigrant businesses alive during this emergency. We need to keep pumping money through the economy – the heartbeat of our communities. This is the insanity that mass deportation brings: The very workers that have been busy rebuilding L.A. after the January fires can’t go outside to work, eat, shop and live.

“But if you can do these things, if you have the privilege and protection of citizenship – please go to Downtown L.A., or any other city or town where immigrants have been targeted. Please show your support.”

Shop, eat out, buy things and services from immigrant businesses.

Hire immigrant workers. Keep people employed. Pay them extra if you can.

Defy MAGA with your money.

“Solo el pueblo salva al pueblo. Only the people will save the people. Supporting immigrant businesses and workers is a simple way to literally save the lives and livelihoods of immigrants who are under attack.”
