NDLON Responds to DHS Creation of VOICE
Los Angeles – On Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the opening of Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement (VOICE).
In response, Salvador Sarmiento, National Campaign Coordinator for NDLON, issued the following statement:
“The goal of this program is to instill fear of non-white immigrants. It is another deliberate step taken by the Trump administration towards creating institutions that legitimize racist propaganda. That’s what this is about, instilling fear in order to subject people to double suspicion, double punishment, and deprivation of due process.
It is blatantly racist and a dangerous new tool for extremists and white supremacists.
Trump’s weapon is fear. Trump wants white people to fear anyone who is not white. And he wants all of us to fear him and his administration.
Our goal is to expose the truth about the Trump-Sessions agenda. Today, every one of us should be making it clear that we will not comply with that agenda, and that we will do everything we can to defy it.”
