Blue Ribbon Commission Reacts Congressman Grijalva’s Letter

In reaction to Congressman Grijalva and other Congressional Democrats’ letter asking President Obama to meet with people undocumented people, Maru Mora, member of the Blue Ribbon Commission, issued the following statement:

“I commend Congress members Raul Grijalva, John Lewis, Judy Chu, and Jan Schakowsky for their leadership in elevating, rather than suppressing, the voices of undocumented people who live with the threat of deportation every day. Too often politicians and lobbyists on Capitol Hill speak on our behalf without truly understanding our urgency for action, nor our need to see broad relief. This is why we welcome all support to be our own advocates in a meeting with President Obama. We hope more members of Congress sign on to this letter.”

On July the Blue Ribbon Commission called on President Obama to meet with directly impacted undocumented people, and asked allies to boycott any meetings in which undocumented people are not present. Since then we have picked up support from the AFL-CIO and the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda.
