The President has not administered smarter or more targeted enforcement. He has pandered to the anti-immigrants in Congress in a failed strategy to court their support. As a result, President Obama can be credited with doing more to criminalize immigrants than Steve King could ever accomplish.
The memos and guidelines issued from ICE leadership have served as little more than political smokescreens for the public and as toilet paper for ICE agents in district offices. Unless he reverses course and makes real efforts to enforce the detainer guidelines and memos, starting with an end to his quota programs like Se Communities he will be remembered as the Deporter-in-Chief and not the great reformer he has promised to be.”
