LOS ANGELES, April 23 – A new poll shows that President Trump’s approval on immigration and other issues is sinking. Sinking like the economy. Like America’s standing in the world.

The following is a statement from Pablo Alvarado, Co-Executive Director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON).

“The American people understand what is happening. The President has vast power. He commands armies and arsenals. No one on earth has a louder megaphone. How weak and small of him to use his mighty office to hurt and terrorize those who cannot hurt him. Immigrants who cannot strike back. Non-citizens whose status already makes them vulnerable. Peaceable workers and parents who have never committed or been convicted of any crimes.

“Trump boasts of his power but wields it like a weak and frightened man. He could use the authority of his office to achieve good things. Instead his regime uses falsehoods and lies to cause suffering and terror among humble, innocent people. They tried to turn a 29-year-old immigrant sheet-metal worker into a tattooed drug lord villain. But they failed — Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a union member, not a gang member. He is a husband and father. He is an immigrant who is making this country better, like so many millions of immigrants.

“Sending ICE troops to drag union apprentices and hairdressers away to foreign prisons. Launching raids to subdue the lawn and drywall crews at Home Depot. These are not the actions of a strong commander-in-chief.

“Kilmar is stronger than Trump. Because he carries the truth with him. He has the Constitution on his side. The law. The courts. He has a growing body of supporters, in Congress and the public, who stand with him. He has a family who loves him.

“What horrors Kilmar and hundreds of others have already endured in that Salvadoran prison, no self-proclaimed MAGA patriot will ever know or endure. Their power is vast and growing. The people are with them, they are with Kilmar. Only the people save the people, and the people cannot be defeated.
