Los Angeles, April 26 – Immigrant workers and families across the country are preparing for a week of engagement and action across the country to defend and reaffirm the dignity of all workers. The “Days of Action” will begin Monday, April 28, International Workers’ Memorial Day, when workers’ organizations like ours gather to mourn the dead and defend the living. The actions will continue until May Day, International Workers Day, on Thursday.

The following is a statement from Pablo Alvarado and Nadia Marin-Molina, Co-Executive Directors of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON):

“Immigrants are on the move next week, honoring the dead and defending the living. From coast to coast, north to south, in cities, towns and suburbs, these “Days of Action” will show the strength of our fight, the power of our communities.

WHAT: Community gatherings, vigils, marches, protests, musical performances, art exhibits, news conferences.

WHO: Members of NDLON’s more than 70 member organizations nationwide, and many other advocacy and nonprofit organizations that defend immigrants and workers.

WHEN: April 28 to May 1.

WHERE: Everywhere.

WHY:

To mourn the workers who have died, to honor our fallen colleagues, family members and friends. To denounce the ongoing assaults against immigrant workers.

To demand that ICE stay out of our communities!  That our local and state officials take a stand against the Trump Administration’s detention and deportation agenda.

To oppose hatred and division. To denounce the harmful influence of MAGA in our local and state and federal governments.  To condemn the collusion taking place between government officials and white nationalist groups.
