REPAIR Act Passes State Appropriations Committee, Heads Next to Senate Floor

Sacramento, CA – On Thursday, the California Senate Appropriations Committee advanced the REPAIR Act (SB1103, Sen. PEREZ), a landmark bill to compel Home Depot and other big-box home improvement stores to share information with the public about immigration raids and arrests on their properties. See text of the bill here.

Salvador Sarmiento issued the following statement for NDLON:

“After a year of unrelenting human rights violations at Home Depots throughout California, it is clear doing nothing is no longer an option for anyone. Lawmakers and Home Depot must take some action, any action, to protect our communities. For the last 11 months, everyday people have stepped up to protect their neighbors, their friends, and their employees. Home Depot and California lawmakers must now follow the lead of the people and DO SOMETHING. The first step is transparency, and that’s all this bill calls for. We expect it to arrive on the governor’s desk for signature in the near future.

The REPAIR Act (SB 1103) is authored by Sasha Renée Pérez and sponsored by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), and endorsed by community organizations and day laborer centers across the state of California. See more about the bill here.

Over 3,500 people have signed a petition calling on Home Depot to “do the right thing” and share what they know about ICE’s raids at their stores.
