The DC City Council approved a bill on Tuesday granting access to driver’s licenses and ID’s for city residents regardless of their immigration status.  The licenses will be marked to show they belong to undocumented residents. The DC Drivers Safety Amendment Act of 2013 will go into effect in May 2014. Recently, California, Vermont, and Massachusetts passed similar bills. In a written statement on Tuesday, Salvador G. Sarmiento of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network said:  “The bill passed today is a significant step toward restoring access to basic services and reducing the threat of deportation for DC’s immigrant residents. It makes our streets safer and our communities more se. People in the district will be able to arrive at their jobs and bring their children home from school without constant worry… Yet the marking on the license singles out DC’s undocumented residents and opens up potential discrimination and targeting,
