More than a hundred women including about two dozen undocumented women, were arrested at the nation’s capital yesterday, calling for passage of a comprehensive immigration bill. The bold act was designed to jump start a stalled bill in Congress, that has been pushed to the back burner because of the debate on Syria, and the upcoming battle over a government spending bill. A new report this week found, that in the absence of federal progress on immigration, nearly 400 immigration-related laws and resolutions were passed by 43 states and the District of Columbia. One of those states is California where two bills have made their way through both state houses while one was shelved.
