Ninth Circuit Upholds California’s Sanctuary State Law

Los Angeles, CA — In response to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision today upholding the California VALUES Act (De Leon, SB54), NDLON Co-Legal Director Jessica Karp Bansal made the following statement:

“The Court’s decision is a stinging defeat for the Trump Administration and a resounding victory for Californians who have fought to distance our state from the President’s cruel and destructive deportation policies.

“Holding that ‘refusing to help is not the same as impeding,’ the Court soundly dismissed the federal government’s argument that the California Values Act obstructs federal law. We encourage other states to follow California’s lead and refuse to help the President deport our families, friends, and neighbors.”
