National Day Laborer Organizing Network Statement On Latest Parliamentarian Theatrics

Nationwide – Today the Senate Parliamentarian issued a third opinion that the U.S. Congress cannot include immigration provisions in the budget reconciliation package. In response Pablo Alvarado, Co-Director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, issued the following statement:

“Democrats’ excuses for their failure, for their incompetence, and for their insincerity will be the ammunition used by xenophobes in the Republican Party to retake control of the federal government in upcoming elections. Inaction on immigration legalization risks further propelling Trumpism in every possible way.

This is a pivotal moment for immigrants, for the Democratic Party, and for the country. President Biden needs to exert leadership today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus must step up, and Democrats must summon the will to pass remedial legislation to address the deprivation of equal rights to millions of immigrants who are working- in many cases to their death- to keep this country functioning during a global pandemic. No more excuses. Where there is a will, there is a way.”
