NDLON Responds to Politicized ICE Raids In Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA – On Wednesday, ICE announced an immigration raid in Los Angeles which led to 150 immigration arrests. In their statement, they pointed to SB-54 as a reason for the intensification of these raids.
In response, Salvador Sarmiento Director of Campaigns at NDLON issued the following statement:
“That ICE carries out a raid to send a political message, deliberately one month before midterms, is just another example of why this rogue, politicized project must come to an end.
“It’s also precisely the reason for local and state policy, like the CA Values Act, that provide safeguards from racist immigration enforcement. This is a moment for LA officials to make clear where they stand on ICE politicized enforcement.
“For LA Sheriff McDonnell, who was Trump’s man in his fight against California’s pro-immigrant policies, it’s time to ask whether he’ll stand by ICE or the LA immigrant community.”
