ICE OUT OF PASADENA

PASADENA, CA — The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) today condemned an ICE raid that abducted six immigrant workers this morning in Pasadena. The arrests took place at Orange Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue, near a local elementary school, forcing the school into lockdown.

The following is a statement from Pablo Alvarado, NDLON’s Co-Executive Director:

“Another six workers taken, another six families devastated, another area of our city and community terrorized by the cruel aggression of the Trump administration. The children and teachers of the elementary school locked themselves indoors today, seeking shelter from the chaos and violence brought to their peaceful community by armed men in masks.

“ICE is attacking the very same people who build, remediate, clean, protect, improve, maintain and rebuild our community. Immigrants who cleared the debris around our homes and businesses when wildfires raged in January.

“Immigrant workers risked their lives and health then. They are risking their lives and health now, during the rebuilding and recovery. They are serving and helping the community, as they always have. And in return, they are attacked and abducted.

“To the public: Please join us to send a non-violent message, rooted in love, that tells the world how angry we are at these injustices, and how dedicated we are to continue fighting to end them. Come to our vigil tonight. And please stay alert and record these abuses whenever and wherever you see them.”

WHAT: ICE OUT of Dena vigil, protest, community gathering.
WHERE: Orange Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena
WHEN: Wednesday, June 18, at 6 p.m.

WHY: To denounce the continued abuse and attacks against immigrants. To demand that ICE stay out of our neighborhoods, and that local leaders reject policies of detention, deportation, and fear. To stand against the forces of hate, division, and white nationalism — and the government officials who enable them.

And to say that immigrants are not afraid. We are not on our knees. We the people gather not in mourning alone, but in action. Because Solo el Pueblo Salva al Pueblo. Only the People Save the People.
