National Day Laborer Network to Launch “No More Lies” Video Series to Confront Disinformation About Migrants

NDLON Declares: “¡No Más Mentiras!” “No More Lies!”

After Years of Lies and Attacks, Spanish-Language Video Campaign Tells the Truth About Immigrants

Pasadena, CA — Sick and tired of the endless lies that politicians and the media tell about immigrants, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) on Wednesday plans to unveil a video campaign to fight back with honesty and facts.

With a series of short videos under the title “No Más Mentiras” (“No More Lies”), leaders from the day laborer network will debunk the most common and dangerous untruths that anti-immigrant forces tell.

What: Press Conference Launch of “No More Lies” Video Series
When: Thursday, August 1, 2024 11:00am PST
Where: Pasadena Community Job Center (500 N. Lake ave, Pasadena CA 91105)

“We’ve all heard the lies — that immigrants are dangerous people, that they bring crime and disease, that they steal jobs and social-service benefits. Donald Trump may be the most notorious anti-immigrant liar, but he is not alone. When these lies spread through social media and TV news, they create intense anger and hostility toward immigrants,” said Pablo Alvarado, NDLON’s Co-Executive Director. “They travel like lightning, while the truth can be very slow.”

“We are alarmed to see Hispanic voters and other voters of color increasingly accepting the lies they hear about immigrants,” added Manuel Vicente, Director of NDLON’s in-house production studio, Radio Jornalera. “That is why our campaign seeks to take apart the lies one by one. If nobody else in the media or online is willing to directly and forcefully challenge the liars, then we will.”

The No Más Mentiras video series will launch with over one dozen short videos to “desmentir las mentiras”— to debunk or discredit the lies told about our community. Each of the videos are only a few minutes long, and can easily be shared through texts and social media websites like TikTok and Instagram. These videos are meant to serve as testimonials for the truth. See below for a list of new videos in the No Más Mentiras series!

“As an organization that defends and empowers immigrants, we cannot stand by as powerful politicians, media organizations, and social-media influencers gaslight and scapegoat innocent people,” added Vicente. “We want to give voters good information so they can make informed choices. We don’t want them to give up and stop participating in democracy. We hope our videos will be shared widely and go viral, gaining power through repetition and establishing NDLON as a strong defender of a shared commitment to honesty and reality.”

“As we say at the day laborer centers, our survival is up to us. No one else is coming to the rescue. Solo el pueblo salva el pueblo. Only the people will save the people.”

Videos in the series include:
“Immigrant Criminals”
“Stealing Jobs”
