Adelanto, CA — Community members, faith leaders, and immigrant rights advocates will gather outside the Adelanto ICE Processing Center for a serenade of solidarity, bringing music, love, and hope to immigrants detained inside the facility.
The event is organized by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), the Pomona Day Workers’ Center, and the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, who are inviting media to witness a powerful demonstration of community support outside one of the largest immigration detention centers in California.
Participants will sing, play music, and hold signs so that people detained inside can hear that they are not alone. Organizers say the serenade is meant to remind detainees that their community is still fighting for them.
Recent reporting based on letters from people detained inside Adelanto describe the psychological toll of detention and the uncertainty many face while separated from their families. One man described the experience of detention saying “it will drive you crazy,” as people struggle with isolation and not knowing when they will be able to return home. (KVCR News)
Organizers say these voices are why the community continues showing up outside the detention center.
From Organizers:
NDLON co-Executive Director Pablo Alvarado:
“When people inside Adelanto hear music and voices from the outside, they know their community has not forgotten them. We are here to remind them they are not alone, we are always thinking about them.”
Pomona Day Workers’ Center Director Caludia Bautista:
“Many of the men detained here are workers and fathers from our own communities. This serenade is our way of sending them strength and dignity across those walls.”
Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice:
“Adelanto has always been a symbol of this country’s broken detention system. We gather outside to bring visibility, humanity, and hope to the people locked inside.” Esmeralda Santos, Lead Organizer at the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice
