NDLON Calls for Suspension of Deportations to Start Reform in Earnest

02.06.2013 – Washington, DC
In response to today’s House Judiciary Committee Hearing on immigration, Pablo Alvarado, Director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network issued the following statement:

“As Republicans debate whether or not to allow their party to be run by xenophobes, the Democrats must decide to stand up instead of concede to them.  Politicians should worry less about the unfounded fears of anti-immigrant hard-liners and more about the political consequences of continuing to humor them. Years of an Enforcement-First approach has not brought Republicans closer to supporting immigration reform. It has brought us farther into an inhumane crisis. To that and start the reform in earnest, the President should declare a moratorium on deportations today for those he wants to see legalized tomorrow.”
