“There is going to be outrage from the tea party, and there’s going to be outrage from Republicans,” he told VOXXI. “But I think the president will have a strong moral ground to say, ‘I’ve given you five years to solve the problem and you haven’t done anything. We have a humanitarian crisis going on and I can declare that these people are entitled to deferred action.’” Opponents of the deferred action program have criticized the president, saying they disagree with his decision to circumvent Congress and provide what they call “backdoor amnesty” to thousands of undocumented young immigrants. But that argument is harder, following U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor’s decision earlier this month to throw out a lawsuit challenging the deferred action program.
