Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ayana Pressley Demand for TPS Families to be Protected

“We are a nation that turns peril into promise. We are a nation that builds from many, and we have to protect our basic character as a nation to be that.” – AOC

Washington, D.C. – On February 12, the National TPS Alliance with the support of NDLON and CARECEN-Los Angeles hosted close to 3,000 people in Washington DC as part of the TPS People’s Summit that included families from all 13 TPS countries across the nation. The March for #TPSJustice began with a press conference in front of the White House.

During the event Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes and Rep. Ayana Presley urged Congress to protect TPS communities, with a real proposals that ensure permanent and inclusive protections for all TPS holders.

“We are a nation that turns peril into promise. We are a nation that builds from many, and we have to protect our basic character as a nation to be that. That is what this is all about. We are here to make sure that all TPS recipients become permanent members of the United States of America.” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez

“I know that people are uncomfortable, but the pursuit of justice is never easy. Temporary protected status is a falsehood. What is temporary about people who have been contributing to this country for decades?” said Rep. Pressley.

The press conference was followed by a march to the US Capitol, where thousands of people, marched under the rain and cold weather to tell Congress they are not bargaining chips to beholden to any political party.
