Day Laborer Network Statement on Marty Walsh Departure

(New York) Today, Department of Labor Secretary and former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has announced he will be leaving the Biden administration to run the NHL Players’ Association.

In response to this announcement, NDLON co-director Nadia Marin-Molina released the following statement:

“We wish Marty Walsh well in his new position leading the hockey players’ union. We hope the next Labor Secretary builds on Mr. Walsh’s successes in supporting the collective power of workers, particularly immigrant workers. The Administration’s newly enacted deferred action whistleblower policy is a fine example of worker-friendly, immigrant-respecting action that makes the U.S. workplace better for everyone. Valuing  immigrant workers’ contributions,  bringing immigrants into the social contract, removing chronic injustices from the labor and immigration systems—these are vitally important goals. We urge the President to quickly name a successor who will pursue them.” -Nadia Marin-Molina, NDLON Co-Executive Director
