MEDIA ADVISORY
Stamford, CT – Over 20 community members were brutally taken from their homes, families, and communities in a multi-city ICE operation on Aug. 24. Danbury, Stamford, and Bridgeport residents experienced Federal agents abuse, as they violently kidnapped our friends and neighbors in broad daylight. Today’s kidnappings are happening almost exactly one year after ICE’s “Operation Broken Trust.” While the Trump Administration claims they are going after the “worst of the worst,” the vast majority of the 60 people taken in Operation Broken Trust are community members that have never been prosecuted for a crime. That is the reality of all ICE operations. The agency is nothing but a tool for terrorizing immigrant workers and Black and Brown people.
Following the lead of successful peaceful mass mobilizations against Federal occupations in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Chicago and No Kings Day demonstrations that put tens of millions in the streets, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) is calling on all neighbors to join us on a peaceful vigil and speakout in front of Stamford City Center to demand “ICE Out of our Communities!”
What: Peaceful Rally/Speakout against ICE terror
Where: Stamford City Center (888 Washington Blvd, Stamford CT)
When: Aug 25, 5-7PM
“What happened today is exactly why our communities are organizing. ICE is using fear and violence to tear families and communities apart, but they will not silence us. We will stand with our neighbors, document what is happening, defend our rights, and make it clear that ICE is not welcome in our communities. ICE OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES!”
— Deborah Gonzalez, National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON)
Community members, immigrant workers, families, and allies are invited to join this peaceful action to stand together against fear and intimidation and to demand an end to ICE terror in our communities. We will come together to support those targeted, defend our neighbors’ rights, and make clear that we want ICE OUT.
Members of the media are invited to attend and speak with organizers and community members about the ongoing impact of ICE enforcement in Connecticut.
