LA Sanctuary Coalition Urges the LA Police Commission To Ensure LAPD’s Full Compliance With LA City Sanctuary Policies!

WHAT: The LA Sanctuary Coalition is holding a press conference before the April 7th Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Police Commission meeting to urge them and Chief Jim McDonnell to come into compliance with the City of LA’s sanctuary protections.

The City of Los Angeles passed a sanctuary ordinance in 2024, and in the past two years, LAPD has continued to delay and fail to fully implement the City of LA’s sanctuary protections. At the same time, the LA Police Commission has not taken the necessary steps to ensure LAPD’s full compliance with these sanctuary policies.

The LA Sanctuary Coalition, Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, and the Mayor’s Executive Directives 12 and 17 have all provided directions and recommendations for LAPD to follow. LAPD has not updated the LAPD manual, FAQs, and guidance to limit LAPD responses to requests for support from federal immigration enforcement agencies to the fullest extent permitted by law..

WHO: Members of the LA Sanctuary Coalition including: ACLU Socal, SEIU UHW, Garment Worker Center, California Immigrant Policy Center, CLEAN Carwash Worker Center, Democratic Socialists of America – Los Angeles, National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), LA Forward, Council on American Islamic Relations, Alliance for a Better Community, Public Counsel, CHIRLA, Organizing Rooted in Abolition, Liberation, and Empowerment (ORALE), UCLA Labor Center, and LA Voice.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. press conference. At 9:30 a.m. members will join the LAPD Commission meeting inside to give public comments.

WHERE: LAPD Headquarters, 100 West 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012
